Located in and hinterland of urban Jilin City, dating back more than three hundred years in history, the Jilin Beishan Scenic Resort covers an area of 135 hectares. There are three lakes at the foot of the mountain and ancient temple clusters built in the Qing Dynasty in the mountain. Since 1924, when it was officially built by opening the mountain and constructing roads, the park has year by year added a number of kiosks, bridges, corridors and pavilions dotted in the lush mountain of woods with serene landscapes. The resort is known for its folk fair, which is extolled as “Topping Dongbei with its thousands of temples, the Beishan Fair embodies thousands of mountains”. The Beishan integrates such traditional cultures as Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, folklore, etc. as well as such humanistic cultures as temples, pavilions, kiosks, platforms, etc. It is one of the famous temple-based scenic resorts to the north of the Great Wall in China.
In 1998, the Jilin City municipal government turned the Beishan Park into the Jilin Beishan Tourism Economic Development Zone. After a large-scale transformation, continued constructions and investment promotions, the resort’s physical setups have substantially improved with quite a number of unique and charming attractions. In 2003, it changed its name back to the Jilin Beishan Scenic Resort. It is now an important tourist destination of “hundreds of flowers in spring, full moon in autumn, lotus in summer and snow in winter”.
